Your Individual Therapy experience can be developed to help you address problematic emotions, behaviors, stress, or life experiences in
an effective and realistic way.
Your goals for seeking treatment become the foundational building blocks that help you change your life and address roadblocks in your journey.
Trauma is a complex issue that many people experience daily. If you had a heart condition you wouldn’t go to a general physician, you’d go to a cardiologist. When it comes to trauma, you want someone who is a specialist.
I’m Tom Hill, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in the treatment of traumatic and attachment wounding.
I’m Tom Hill, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in the treatment of traumatic and attachment wounding.

My primary focus is the treatment of adults who have experienced past or present-day trauma. I have experience working with first responders, military veterans and families, medical professionals, therapists, and parents of children who have histories of trauma.
There is a misconception that going to a therapist for trauma means that you have to relive your experience. It is also untrue that you have to tell your therapist everything. I believe in a compassionate approach to trauma therapy that puts you in control. We work together so that you can get your life back.
Trauma can be any experience that you perceive as negative and that adversely impacts your life, which can be physical, emotional, or both. Vicarious trauma refers to the impact of being exposed to difficult and disturbing stories, images, or events through your line of work. As a therapist considering the impact of negativity, no event is too small or insignificant, and no one is immune to the impact of physical and emotional traumas.
When you work with me, you get a treatment plan tailored to your needs. We meet for as long and as often as you need. Once you schedule a time slot, it’s yours because I believe in consistency when treating trauma. It’s one of the things that creates safety and structure, which is what trauma treatment is all about. I work to be accessible and make sure to leave open time slots throughout my week so that you can be seen if something comes up or if you need extra time.
Trauma can impact your life and increase stress. You may experience one, many, or none of the typical symptoms associated with trauma, such as unpredictable emotions, an increase in depression and anxiety, hypervigilance, nightmares, or flashbacks, to name a few.
If you have been through a difficult time, you are suffering, or you are struggling, these are reasons to seek treatment.
I've started working in the mental health field around 2004. My background in trauma therapy began 11 years ago at the Intensive Trauma Therapy Institute in Morgantown, West Virginia. It was then that I obtained a certification as a Trauma Therapist in the Instinctual Response Model. Since then I have been trained in EMDR and l as well as certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I am currently pursuing a voluntary certification in EMDR as I value continuing my own development of my skills and competency.
I also have a background as an LGBTQ+ Safe Zone trainer and advocate. Understanding without judgment is a core value of therapy with me. I am passionate about creating a place of acceptance for all of my clients.
